SES Teachers’ Retreat
Through use of the program, young people are encouraged to learn how to think, not what to think about complex environmental issues. Project Learning Tree provides educators with tools to incorporate environmental learning in the classroom, while meeting state and national standards. This interdisciplinary program brings environmental objectives into the general curriculum with activities easily incorporated into science, language arts, social studies, reading, math, art, music lessons and more. Teachers embraced this workshop with great enthusiasm, eager to make use of new learning on the SES Nature Trail with students. Led by Rebecca Gies from the Vermont Department of Forestry, this workshop became possible to SES teachers because of individuals who took over classrooms for the day. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Beth Hike for organizing classroom coverage and to the following people for covering classrooms for the day: Roger Rivera, Rebecca Ruben, Joyce Stevens, Phoebe Sardelli, Celeste Chernin, Ellen VanHerwarde, Jane Aiken, Lori Weirether, Shari Borzekowski, Sarah Farrand, and Peter Hike. Because of your help, SES teachers came away with “additional tools in their tool belt” to better educate students through nature trail curricula integration!
