Through the Vermont MIDI Project, sixth grade students received a login to Noteflight Learning Edition, allowing each of them full access to Noteflight to do creative work in a notation software. Students can create new works, edit, save, share, print, or make a wave audio format file. The login is available from any Internet connection so students can continue to work on their compositions or create new ones until July 2010.
Student guidelines to composing their stepwise melody included: begin and end on the home tone of F and include eighth, quarter, half, and whole notes. Ask your student to describe their work to you and discuss how they created their piece.
